LISBON/ISTANBUL (AA) - Portugal-Turkey Business Council convened in Lisbon, Turkish Ambassador to Portugal Zergun Koruturk said on Friday.
Following the meeting, Koruturk told reporters that the two countries had decided to further improve their bilateral relations during last month's visit of Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer to Lisbon.
''The trade volume between Turkey and Portugal is currently 500 million euro. The two countries have the necessary potential to increase that amount up to 1 billion euro. Turkey is ranked 16th among commercial partners of Portugal,'' he said.
Noting that the meeting focused on ways to improve the economic relations between the two countries, Koruturk added, ''we aim to hold regular meetings. Representatives of Portuguese Business Council will visit Istanbul in the coming days.''
