Basesgioglu Says Economic Growth Should Be Reflected To Employment

GENEVA (AA) - Turkish Labor & Social Security Minister Murat Basesgioglu said on Thursday that the world economy grew by 4.5 percent, but the global employment only increased by 1 percent last year.
''We should work to reflect the positive effect of economic growth to employment,'' told Basesgioglu at the unofficial meeting of EU countries' labor and social affairs ministers in Geneva (where the 93rd ILO Conference is held).
Noting that the Turkish economy also grew by 9 percent in 2004, but only 650,000 people were employed, Basesgioglu referred to the importance of employment of young people.
Underlining that competition based on cheap labor and child labor should be prevented, Basesgioglu said that ILO-IPEC project which Turkey launched to prevent child labor had been successful.
Basesgioglu also gave information about active employment policies in Turkey in the meeting.
