TALAT: THERE IS NOTHING THAT MAKES US FEEL UNEASY. IT IS OBJECTIVE IN GENERAL
LEFKOSA (AA) - President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), said on Thursday that the report presented by the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to the Security Council was objective in general.
Talat said, ''I haven't seen any element in the report that makes us feel uneasy. He has made very important diagnosis.''
Evaluating the report presented by UN Secretary General Annan to the Security Council, Talat said he has not yet examined the report in details, stating that a general evaluation could be made. Talat said some of the diagnosis in the report approved the approach of the Turkish party and emphasized the expressions that particularly the property problem could only be removed through solution.
Talat said it was important that UN Secretary General stressed the attitude of the Turkish Cypriot people favoring solution, and stated that elections was the product of this will.
The report's assessment which notes that 'the basis on which a step would be taken on the way to solution has not been formed yet' is the 'most regretful side' of the report, Talat noted.
Pointing out that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited southern Cyprus but did not proceed to the TRNC, Talat said they were not pleased with this because Turkish Cypriots were the party which demanded Russia to have a positive point of view over the Cyprus question.
Talat said there were several contacts with the Russian Embassy for a meeting, yet the Russian Minister did not proceed to the North as his schedule was not available.
''I think it is a binding duty both for the United States and Russia to make the UN Security Council discuss Annan report that envisages ending of the isolation of Turkish Cypriots,'' Talat stressed.
