WASHINGTON D.C. (AA) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who is currently paying a state visit to the United States, met U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday.
Replying to questions of journalists following the meeting, Erdogan said, ''I believe that today's (Wednesday) meetings with U.S. President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney will accelerate our bilateral relations. Also, I think that very constructive developments will occur in our relations as a result of mutual steps to be taken by Turkey and the United States in the coming days.''
During the meeting, Prime Minister Erdogan invited Cheney to Turkey.
In response, Vice President Cheney said that he could pay a visit to Turkey soon.
The meeting focused also on commercial relations between the two countries.
Cheney highlighted importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline project in regard to economic development and prosperity of the region.
Following the meeting, Prime Minister Erdogan met representatives of think-tank organizations in Washington D.C. and journalists at a lunch.
Erdogan also held talks with representatives of Assembly of Turkish-American Associations (ATAA).
Prime Minister Erdogan is expected to proceed from Washington D.C. to New York today (Thursday).
