GENEVA (AA) - Turkish Labor & Social Security Minister Murat Basesgioglu met Juan Somavia, director general of International Labor Organization (ILO), in Geneva on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Basesgioglu laid down Turkey's proposal to host any ILO meeting to be held at the end of this year or the following year.
Basesgioglu said that discussion of Turkey in the Committee on the Application of Standards regarding the ILO Convention concerning Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize meant that reforms made in Turkey's working life had not been perceived well.
On the other hand, Somavia said that personally he did not think Turkey deserved to be discussed by this committee.
After this meeting, Basesgioglu had meetings with his Albanian counterpart Engjell Bejtja and International Social Security Association (ISSA) Secretary General Dalmar Hoskins.
During Basesgioglu-Hoskins meeting, ISSA officials proposed to train experts of Turkish Labor & Social Security Ministry and representatives of employees, employers and NGOs in Turkey on social security.
