WASHINGTON D.C. (AA) - German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer said on Tuesday that negotiations between Turkey and the EU should start on October 3rd as envisaged before.
Fisher, who is currently paying a two-day visit to the United States, told reporters that any attempt to leave aside the negotiations with Turkey could create a serious risk.
He stressed that the EU should decide whether or not to accept Turkey's membership at the end of the negotiation process, which was expected to last for 15 years.
Fischer is scheduled to meet U.S. Secretary of State later on Wednesday.
