LEFKOSA, Jan 11 (A.A) - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Friday that his meeting with Greek Cypriot leader Glafcos Clerides on the issue of missing people was positive.
Responding questions of journalists after the meeting, President Denktas said, ''works have been continuing on the issue of missing people. On Monday, the sides will come together again, and present documents to each other. Then, we will review these documents. Issue of missing people will be kept separate from the face-to-face talks in which United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Representative Alvaro De Soto will attend as an observer. If we can succeed in reviving the commission dealing with the issue, the matter will be resolved easily on certain conditions.''
He told reporters that the agreement reached on July 31, 1997, on the issue of missing people was brought onto agenda during the meeting.
Noting that he could discuss the issue with Clerides again before January 16, President Denktas said that both sides had been expending efforts to solve the problem of missing people in a humanitarian manner.
Denktas said that De Soto would come to the island on Sunday, and meet with him on Monday.
Turkish Cypriot Missing People Committee Chairman Rustem Tatar was also in attendance at the meeting.
