Dervis: State Will Give Banking System Temporary Transparent Support

ANKARA, Jan 10 (A.A) - State Minister Kemal Dervis said on Thursday that the state would not give money as a gift to nobody with the arrangement for transfer of capital to banking system, adding, ''the state will give temporary support to the national banking system in a transparent way.''
Responding to criticisms about the bill which foresees transfer of capital to the banking system during talks on the bill at the Parliamentary General Assembly, Dervis said that the arrangement aimed to make the Turkish finance sector more powerful and to give more loans to the real sector.
Noting that strengthening the capital of banks as soon as possible was pre-condition of strengthening the finance sector and preventing eruption of another economic crisis, Dervis said, ''transparency is the basic dimension of this operation. The aim is the settlement of a transparent banking system in Turkey which nobody can doubt about.''
''When this transparent situation is created, some weaknesses should be removed as soon as possible also with the state support. The state will not give money as a gift to anybody. The state will support the national banking system temporarily and in a transparent way,'' Dervis said.
Later, the Parliamentary General Assembly started to discuss articles of the bill which foresees restructuring of finance sector and transfer of capital to banks.
