Japan To Provide Turkey 100 Million U.S.D To Fortify The Base Of Bogazici Bridge

ANKARA, Jan 10 (A.A) - Japanese Senate Deputy Chairman Shoji Motooka announced that Japan would give Turkey 100 million U.S. dollar loan to fortify the base of Bogazici Bridge in case of a possible earthquake in Istanbul.
Motooka who was received by Parliament Chairman Omer Izgi said that the bridge survived the 1999 earthquake but it might not survive a stronger one. He also pointed to Japan's experience in earthquakes.
''Turkish and Japanese experts had a meeting after the earthquake and discussed what could be done to prevent any damage to the bridge in case of a stronger earthquake. They agreed that the base of the bridge has be be made stronger,'' he answered a question.
Motooka said there would be a Turkish Day celebraion in 2003 in his country and he invited Izgi to Japan with a large delegation.
Izgi drew attention to the good relations between Turkey and Japan.
