LONDON, Jan 10 (A.A) - A memorandum of understanding of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) which will operate in Afghanistan was signed on Thursday in London, Britain.
Under the memorandum of understanding which was signed by Military Attache Senior Captain Turker Erturk from the Naval Forces on behalf of Turkey, Turkey will send a company of 261 troops to the region.
Turkey's contribution to ISAF will also include 3 officers at the division headquarters and an officer at the brigade headquarters in Afghanistan and an officer at the common headquarters in Britain.
Turkey is the only Muslim country sending troops to ISAF while Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden are all contributing alongside Britain.
Sources said that also the matter of transfer of ''lead nation status'' of the ISAF after three months had come to the agenda.
Military circles hinted that Turkey may take charge after Britain.
Military officials said countries contributing to ISAF had not yet made a clear proposal about the matter.
