US must do more to stop PKK: Gul

Washington - Turkey has called on the US to do more to halt the activities of the terrorist group the PKK, which has bases in Northern Iraq.
The call came from Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul in a meeting in Washington Tuesday with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Gul, who is accompanying Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on an official visit to the US, told journalists after the meeting that the terrorist threat posed by the PKK needed to be addressed urgently.
“There is leakage from Iraq, and a noticeable increase in attacks on our troops by PKK terrorists utilising remote controlled bombs and mines,” the Foreign Minister said. “We cannot ignore this, and I expressed that the US needs to be more decisive in this struggle.”
Though the US has troops in Northern Iraq, it has said that it does not have the strength of forces on the ground to combat the activities of the PKK.
