Italy, Syria, Germany, Saudi Arabia And Britain Become Export Centers Of Gap

GAZIANTEP, Jan 8 (A.A) - Exports of agricultural, animal and industrial products from the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) region to Italy, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Britain in the January-November period of 2001 increased 30,6 percent to 172 million 149 thousand U.S. dollars.
In the same period last year, the GAP region exported 131 million 748 thousand U.S. dollars of agricultural, animal and industrial products to these five countries.
Gaziantep-based Southeast Anatolian Exporters' Association officials told the A.A correspondent on Tuesday their exports to Italy increased 62.4 percent to 58 million 184 thousand U.S. dollars, their exports to Germany rose 21.9 percent to 30 million 374 thousand U.S. dollars, their exports to Syria climbed 2.3 percent to 30 million 246 thousand U.S. dollars, their exports to Saudi Arabia increased 75 percent to 27 million 24 thousand U.S. dollars, and their exports to Britain increased 6.7 percent to 26 million 321 thousand U.S. dollars.
The Turkish goods in greatest demand were dried apricot, cotton thread, textiles, carpet, sheep and processed animal intestine.
