ERDOGAN: ''THE VETOED CHANGES IN TURKISH PENAL CODE
WILL BE ACCEPTED AGAIN AND SENT BACK TO SEZER''
Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that the changes in Turkish Penal Code that were vetoed by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer will be accepted again at the parliament and sent back to Sezer. Erdogan talked to reporters in his airplane on the way to Washington. ''An early election or the issue of new president are not on our agenda,'' told Erdogan.

SEZER MEETS UKRAINE'S PRESIDENT YUSHCHENKO
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer met Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko at the Cankaya Palace. Several agreements were signed, including agreements on cooperation in the energy sector, railway transportation, technological sector, cooperation in the fight against crimes and nuclear sector.

MESSAGE TO UNITED STATES ABOUT PKK
Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, who is currently accompanying Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to the United States, said, ''our visit aims to remove all misunderstandings. Anti-Americanism and anti-Semitism do not exist in Turkey. On the contrary, Turkey is one of the countries extending the biggest support to the United States.'' Prior to the scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Erdogan and U.S. President George W. Bush later today (Wednesday), Gul reiterated that Turkey expected the United States to take concrete and influential steps to eliminate the terrorist organization of PKK.

''UNFORTUNATELY, CHP IS ANTI-AMERICAN''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan accused the Republican People's Party (CHP) of being anti-American. He said that the Cyprus issue would be on top of agenda during his scheduled meeting with U.S. President George W. Bush later today (Wednesday). Referring to the new Turkish Penal Code (TCK) vetoed by President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Erdogan said that the new TCK would be re-approved without any change and sent back to the President.

TURKEY AND UKRAINE SIGN 6 AGREEMENTS
The leader of the Orange Revolution, Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko met Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc yesterday. Six agreements were signed between Turkey and Ukraine and discussions on energy, human trafficking and regional developments took place.

SEZER POSTPONES TRIP TO FAR EAST ASIA
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has postponed his trip to Pakistan, China and Afghanistan due to back problems.

Acting Prime Minister Abdullatif Sener said that the Justice & Development Party (AKP) was the guarantee of secularism in Turkey. Speaking at the parliamentary group meeting of the AKP, Sener said, ''we are trying to secure a social culture on the basis of affection, unity and solidarity.''

GEN. BASBUG CALLS ON UNITED STATES TO TAKE URGENT ACTION
General Staff Deputy Chief Gen. Ilker Basbug called on the United States to take urgent action against the terrorist organization of PKK. Meanwhile, Gen. Peter Pace, the vice chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the other alternatives should be considered first before a military action.

GUL PROPOSES A NEW PAGE IN RELATIONS
Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul met the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice yesterday (Tuesday). Gul proposed opening a new page in relations. Gul's meeting with Rice focused on key issues, including Afghanistan, Iraq, the Caucasus and Balkans. Gul indicated that the U.S. will cooperate with Turkey more closely in fighting against the terrorist organization PKK.

DOUBLE MESSAGE FROM THE TURKISH ARMED FORCES
Participating at a panel discussion in Washington, D.C., Turkish Deputy Chief of General Staff General Ilker Basbug has indicated that Turkey expects more active role from the United States in its fight against the terrorist organization PKK. ''PKK must be deprived of assistance and its hopes for success crushed. We expect our American friends to help us deal with the PKK,'' said General Basbug. Basbug added that in a secular country, such as Turkey, the idea of a moderate Islam can not survive. ''A secular system can not harbor moderate Islam.''

''Democracy and Global Security Conference'' will start in Istanbul tomorrow (Thursday). Interior ministers, police chiefs and academicians from 92 countries and 200 agents of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will attend the conference.

EDUCATION PERIOD IN HIGH SCHOOLS INCREASES TO FOUR YEAR
Education period in high schools increased from three to four years. National Education Minister Huseyin Celik ratified the decision envisaging to increase education period.

''NOW, IT IS TURN OF GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE''
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he would meet U.S. President George W. Bush later today (Wednesday) with the Cyprus issue on the agenda. ''Turkish Cypriots who supported UN Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan in the referendum last year, were punished while Greek Cypriots who rejected the same plan, were awarded with EU membership. Such an injustice should be removed. I will ask the United States to launch a pioneering initiatives to this end,'' he added.

ARMENIANS SHOCKED WITH BRUSSELS' DECISION
Belgian Senate Justice Commission rejected a draft resolution aiming to punish those who deny allegations on so-called Armenian genocide. The decision disappointed Armenian people. Brussels changed its mind after Turkey's harsh reaction.

Speaking to Zaman daily on the way to the United States, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has indicated that his administration wants to take steps with Washington, a strategic partner of Turkey, in the future. ''Our relations with the U.S. are warm and sincere. We are taking joint steps in NATO for example,'' said Erdogan.

Turkish National Football Team takes on Kazakhstan in Almaty tonight, at 1800 hours local Turkish time. Turkey will pray so that Greece loses to Ukraine in Athens today. A win in Kazakhstan may give Turkey a chance to participate in play-offs, required for participation in 2006 World Cup in Germany.
