ANKARA, Jan 7 (A.A) - Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi received U.S. House of Representatives member Christopher Shays and his delegation on Monday.
During the visit, Shays stated that the U.S. House of Representatives was grateful to Turkey for its support to the international fight against terrorism. ''Turkey has been fighting against terrorism for the last 30 years but we weren't inside it. We have a lot to learn from the Turkish government about this subject. We're grateful for your support to the United States and American people,'' Shays said.
Shays indicated that they were in Turkey to exchange views with political leaders about terrorism.
Izgi also said that Turkey suffered from terrorism for long years and now it was understood that success could be only reached through an international fight against terrorism.
Shays later had a meeting with Parliament Foreign Affairs Commission Chairman Kamran Inan.
During the 20-minute meeting, Izgi said that Turkey failed to receive the support it expected from the West for many years and these countries had a double standard towards terrorism.
Inan said that the world, after Sept. 11 attack, should be in a closer cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
