Erdogan Calls Prime Minister To Bring Issue Of Iraq To Parliament's Agenda

ANKARA, Jan 7 (A.A) - AK Party leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that he expected Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit to bring the issue of Iraq to the agenda of the parliament before his visit to the U.S.
Speaking in a news conference, Erdogan claimed that the solution of Cyprus and Aegean issues was being put forward as a precondition for Turkey to join the EU.
Referring to the terrorist attacks in the U.S. launched on September 11, Erdogan said that terrorism does not have religion and nationality. Criticizing the EU for not including terrorist organizations PKK and DHKP/C into the list of international terrorist organizations, Erdogan claimed that the government has deficiency on this issue.
Erdogan alleged that the government has also ambiguity in its policy about Afghanistan, adding that it was pleasing to know that the Turkish soldiers who would be sent to the region would be from non-combatants.
Erdogan said that influential groups in the U.S. started to voice the issue of intervention in Iraq following the terrorist attacks in the U.S., adding that this issue would be probably taken up during Ecevit's visit to the U.S. Erdogan said that Ecevit had to hold a general debate in the parliament before going to the U.S. to discuss Iraq issue.
