ISTANBUL (AA) - Former member of the US House of Representatives Larry Larocco said on Thursday that the side which was isolated in Cyprus was not Turks, but the Greek Cypriots who rejected all solutions on the island.
Speaking in the panel discussion on Turkish-American relations held at Bogazici University, Larocco referred to their (US Congressmen) visit to TRNC. Larocco said that problems such as transportation and Ercan Airport should be sorted out.
Egemen Bagis, the Turkish-American Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairman thanked the US Congressmen delegation who visited TRNC.
Referring to the transportation problem of Turkish Cypriots, Bagis said that ''it is the right of Turkish Cypriot students to go directly to the United States to study there. We've been working to make Cyprus Turkish Airlines fly directly to Washington D.C. from Ercan Airport.'' Bagis also pointed out to the efforts launched to organize a student exchange program between the US and TRNC.
Ronald Asmus, the Director of German Marshall Fund of the United States said in his part that Turkey was a very important country in the region.
''The visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the US will be very determining in respect of Turkish-American relations. We will see if there will be an improvement or not in bilateral relations,'' he added.
