EU states warned against 'unilateral' action over crisis

BRUSSELS - European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso urged European Union governments Wednesday not to take any "unilateral initiatives" over the bloc's constitution crisis before a mid-June summit.
In an apparent reference to reports that Britain could decide to suspend plans for a referendum, he said the 25-nation bloc's leaders should do nothing before coming to a joint decision at the June 16-17 summit.
"It will not be wise before the (EU summit) for leaders of EU member states to come with new initiatives or unilateral decisions that could make it more difficult to reach a consensus," he said.
