LEFKOSA (AA) - The Cyprus issue needs an urgent solution, President Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Wednesday.
     President Talat received UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Sir Kieran Prendergast in Lefkosa.
     Following the meeting, President Talat told reporters, ''the Cyprus issue needs an urgent solution. The current situation in the island cannot be sustainable. We seek methods to resolve it.''
     Meanwhile, Prendergast said that UN Secretary General Kofi Annan had sent him to Cyprus to listen to views of the two sides.
     Prendergast said that his visit aimed at probing for resumption of peace talks in Cyprus.
     President Talat is scheduled to meet Prendergast on Thursday for the second time.
