ANTALYA (AA) - The 12th International Aspendos Opera & Ballet Festival will be held at the ancient Aspendos theater in southern city of Antalya between June 11th and July 19th.
Three foreign groups will join the festival to be hosted by Turkish Directorate General of State Opera & Ballet.
The Rome Opera & Ballet group, which will visit Turkey for the first time, will open the festival on June 11th, together with Bilkent Symphony Orchestra of Turkey. They will perform ''Petrushka'' and ''Fire Bird'' ballets by I. Stravinsky.
The next foreign guests of the festival are German Justus Frantz, one of the world-famous conductors, and the Philharmonia of the Nations.
The group will perform the ''Ninth Symphony'' of Beethoven, the official anthem of the European Union (EU), on July 12th.
Also, Russian Mariinsky Theatre and Kirov Opera & Orchestra will perform the gala concert of the festival.
Situated approximately 50 kilometers east of Antalya, the Aspendos Theater is one of the best preserved and restored Roman Theaters seating an audience of 15,000. The festivals in this gorgeous antique theater with its excellent acoustics and beautiful structure attract thousands of Turkish and foreign guests every summer.
