ISTANBUL (AA) - Fenerbahce Football Club announced that their coach Christoph Daum will remain with the club for two more years.
The 51-year-old German coach had two previous spells in Turkey with Besiktas, which he took to third in the Turkish super league in 2001-2002 before resigning.
Fenerbahce clinched the 2004-2005 football season championship ahead of Trabzonspor and Galatasaray. They will directly participate in the European Champions League group stage next season.
Meanwhile, Gheorghe Hagi resigned as Galatasaray coach after failing to gain a UEFA Champions League place in their centenary year.
The 40-year-old Romanian took over in March 2004 and this season won the Turkish Cup and masterminded a 5-1 victory against arch-rivals Fenerbahce.
However, after Saturday's results, where Galatasaray defeated Denizlispor 4-0 only for Trabzonspor to prevail 5-0 at Istanbulspor and claim second place by one point, Hagi announced his decision.
Hagi, as a Galatasaray player between 1996 and 2000, won four league titles, the UEFA Cup and the Super Cup.
