Cicek: Referendum In France Is Not A Pre-condition For Turkey's Entry Talks With E.U.

ANKARA (AA) - ''The results of referendum in France for EU Constitution is not a surprise for Turkey. The referendum is certainly not a pre-condition for Turkey's negotiation with the EU on October 3rd,'' said government spokesman Cemil Cicek.
     Speaking to reporters after today's Council of Ministers meeting, Cicek said, ''referendum in France is related with its inner dynamics.''
     He said, ''EU Constitution emerged after a long preparation period. Turkey also contributed to this period. Actually, EU Constitution is a single text of different agreements which have been signed so far. After this text was prepared, every country voted it. Our assessment about EU Constitution period is that Turkey's road map is clear in the aspects of economy, politics and foreign policy. Referendum in France is not a pre-condition for Turkey during entry talks.''
     Cicek noted, ''Turkey was not voted during referendums in EU countries for EU Constitution. It is wrong to establish a direct connection between the referendums and Turkey. Turkey is getting prepared for starting entry talks with the EU on October 3rd.''
