ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Foreign Ministry stated on Monday that groundless claims which were made due to anniversary of so-called Pontus genocide do not tally with current positive atmosphere in relations between Turkey and Greece.
Foreign Ministry recalled in a written statement that ''various demonstrations and activities have been held against Turkey in Greece after Greek Parliament announced May 19th as commemoration day of so-called Pontus genocide.''
Turkey feels sorrow over groundless claims against Turkey by Greek government spokesman Theodoros Rousopoulos, Deputy Foreign Ministers Panagiotis Skandalakis and Evripidis Stilianidis and Foreign Ministry spokesman Giorgos Koumoutsakos in the statements they made due to 86th anniversary of so-called ''Pontus genocide'', the statement noted.
The Ministry stated, ''such baseless claims are not compatible with current positive atmosphere in relations between Turkey and Greece. It is obvious that these claims will not contribute to efforts to develop friendly relations and cooperation between peoples of two countries.''
