WASHINGTON - The French rejection of a European constitution will not halt US cooperation with the European Union, a White House spokesman said Tuesday.
"In terms of the European Union constitution, I think that's a matter that's best handled by the voters in Europe," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.
But he added that President George W. Bush has "talked about the importance of the United States and European Union working together in partnership.
"We have a number of important priorities that we're working on with Europe, from the Middle East to Darfur to expanding our efforts to support the expansion of democracy and freedom. And we will continue to work in close partnership with Europe on that agenda," McClellan told reporters.
