''NO'' SHOCK TO EUROPE
55.96 percent of French people voted against the European Union (EU) Constitution, which shocked Europe. Those who voted for the Constitution remained at 44.04 percent. Anchormen assessed the outcome of the referendum in France as a ''big stroke on President Chirac''. Chirac said, ''it will be difficult to protect our interests in Europe due to this result.'' (French National Front leader) Le Pen called on Chirac to resign.

TURKEY'S NEW CYPRUS PLAN
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul announced the new Cyprus plan which Turkey will present to UN Secretary General Annan: ''Let's lift all restrictions (on TRNC) mutually at the same time.''

GUL: ''PARLIAMENT'S DECISION ON TCK SHOULD BE RESPECTED''
Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said, ''the parliament debated new Turkish Penal Code (TCK). A decision was made. The parliament's decision on TCK should be respected.'' Gul left for Bahrain on Sunday upon formal invitation of Bahraini Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Muhammad bin Mubarak Al Khalifa.

A BALL HELD IN PERA HOUSE
A ball was held in British Consulate General's building in Beyoglu district Pera House which was damaged seriously by devastating suicide truck bomb attack on November 20, 2003. After its restoration was completed, a ball was held in Pera House yesterday.

FRANCE SAYS NO TO EU
The referendum in France on EU Constitution resulted as it was expected. The French 'No' has brought the EU to the edge of a crisis. The percent of 'No' in France has been announced as 57 percent. After this result, the anti-Turkey front in Europe is expected to be more powerful, and now all the eyes are on the Dutch referendum.

DUBAI ALLIANCE
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul who is from the Justice and Development Party (AKP) has supported the company owned by a deputy from the opposition party (CHP) to help the company win the tender of construction of Dubai subway.

U.S. REAL ESTATE GIANT IN TURKEY FOR MORTGAGE
Realty World, the rapidly growing real estate company in the United States, has launched initiatives to open 150 offices in Turkey in one year. The Realty World, which will make the first investment in mortgage system in Turkey, is planning to renovate old houses in Istanbul and sell them at reasonable prices as a first step.

INDEPENDENT PARLIAMENTARIANS EN ROUTE TO ANAP
Some say that independent parliamentarians will join the Motherland Party (ANAP). On the other hand, ANAP aims at forming a group and becoming an effective opposition at the parliament. It is said that Selami Yigit, who resigned from (the main opposition Republican People's Party) CHP, Dursun Akdemir, Ummet Kandogan, Reyhan Balandi and Ibrahim Ozdogan, who resigned from (the True Path Party) DYP, are expected to join ANAP during ANAP's ByLaw Congress to be held on June 4th. On the other hand, Turhan Tuysuz, a former member of the CHP signing a declaration to act jointly with parliamentarians who resigned from DYP, may also join ANAP.

ANNAN TAKES PULSE IN CYPRUS
UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Sir Kieran Prendergast is expected to arrive in Cyprus on Monday. Prendergast will meet President Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos and leaders of political parties. He will submit a report to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan about his meetings.

100 HOUSES FLOODED IN DENIZLI
Flood waters triggered by torrential rains inundated 100 houses and business places in western city of Denizli on Sunday. No casualties were reported during floods.

JURISDICTION: KURDISH FOLK SONGS ARE FREE
The Supreme Court of Appeals annulled the punishment of a person singing Kurdish folk songs in an election campaign. Songs from every language can be sung and played in demonstrations from now on. But, only Turkish can be spoken at the rostrum.

SUSURLUK CONVICT KILLED
Oguz Yorulmaz, a former member of the special team who was convicted of the Susurluk case, was shot to death in a row at a bar in (northwestern city of) Bursa yesterday morning. Eight people were detained after the incident.

GESTURE TO TRNC
The US had made an important gesture to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) prior to the visits of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul to the US. The US administration sends a group from the US House of Representatives to TRNC via Turkey. The delegation will directly fly to TRNC (from Turkey) and meet TRNC President Talat, Foreign Minister Denktas and some NGOs.

GUL:WE ARE PLEASED ABOUT US GESTURE
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said regarding the visit of the US Congress group to TRNC that ''we are very pleased about the fact that our friends take into consideration our calls.'' Noting that the visit of the US delegation to TRNC was very important, Gul said that both Turkey and TRNC showed that they had a very compromising attitude about Cyprus issue. ''Now we are happy to see that the international society observes these developments and take positive steps,'' said Gul.

FOREIGN BUSINESSMEN NOT INVEST IN TURKISH TOURISM SECTOR
Foreign investors show great interest in Turkey which has caught economic stability for three years. Foreign businessmen are more active in banking, food and construction sectors. However, they don't show great interest in the tourism sector which is open to development. Some leading names from Turkish tourism sector said that foreign investors did not show much interest in this sector, since the sector was not institutional enough.

COMPANY OF A CHP DEPUTY WINS TENDER IN DUBAI THANKS TO GUL
Turkish company Yapi Merkezi established by Republican People's Party (CHP) deputy Ersin Arioglu won a tender in Dubai with the support of Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul. Yapi Merkezi and Japanese consortium won the tender of automated light metro network in Dubai. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Gul extended great support to Turkish businessmen during their visits to abroad.

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who assessed the criticisms that amendment was made in Turkish Penal Code (TCK) for Koran courses, said, ''the parliament is not under the command of the government. The issue was discussed at the parliament, and made a decision. So, everybody should respect it.''

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who spoke at the First Regional Meeting of his Justice & Development Party (AK Party), stressed that ''politics could not be made on headscarf'', and said that ''they would not allow such a politics''. Erdogan added, ''AK Party will not cause tension.''
