Spanish PM says EU treaty ratification process must continue

MADRID, May 29 (AFP) - Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said the ratification process of the EU constitution must continue despite a massive rejection of the treaty by French voters Sunday, according to a government spokesman.
"Zapatero believes that the process should continue. The (constitutional) treaty has already been approved by nine countries, including Germany, Spain and Italy and should be submitted to a vote in the other members of the Union," said the spokesman.
"The result of the referendum in France is not good news but it is not a catastrophe," said the spokesman, adding that "domestic French problems unfortunately influenced the vote."
