TEHRAN - Iran said on Sunday that Iraq's Shiite Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari will visit within the next month, in what will be the first trip top Tehran by a high-ranking Iraqi official since the formation of the new government.
"Based on the understanding that we reached in Iraq, the prime minister will visit Iran within a month," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters, without giving any further details.
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi visited Iraq earlier this month.
Baghdad and Tehran, which were at war from 1980-1988, re-established diplomatic ties last September.
