LOS ANGELES - Oscar-winning US film director Oliver Stone was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of a controlled substance at a police checkpoint in Beverly Hills, authorities said Saturday.
Stone`s films include the recent "Alexander," "JFK" (1991) and "Natural Born Killers" (1994). He won Academy Awards for directing in 1989 for "Born on the Fourth of July" and in 1986 for "Platoon," which also won the Oscar for best picture. He lives in Santa Monica.
Stone "exhibited symptoms of possible alcohol intoxication" late Friday when he was stopped at the checkpoint at Beverly Hills` Sunset Boulevard, police said.
The director was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and possession of a controlled substance, Beverly Hills police said in a statement. Authorities did not disclose the type of substance.
The director was released early Saturday after posting a 15,000-dollar bond.
