LONDON - Britain's Queen Elizabeth on Thursday joined the chorus of praise for Liverpool following their heroic fightback to win the Champions League final against AC Milan in Istanbul.
The monarch was still on a visit to Canada when Liverpool came from 0-3 down at half time to draw level and go on to win on penalties and lift the trophy for the fifth time, a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said.
After flying back to Britain on Thursday morning the queen had been told of the result and sent a message to the team.
"Congratulations on your remarkable win last night," it read.
"It was a magnificent achievement which will be remembered for many years both in Liverpool and across the country."
