New York Times Co to axe 190 jobs

NEW YORK - The New York Times Co. announced plans Wednesday to cut 190 jobs, comprising nearly two percent of its workforce, with the bulk of layoffs coming from the New York Times newspaper.
Roughly two-thirds of the total reduction will occur at the Times, with fewer than two dozen of that number coming from newspaper's newsroom, where a voluntary reduction program will be in effect, the company said in a statement.
The other job losses will be felt at the New England Media Group, which includes The Boston Globe.
"Staff reductions will be carefully managed so that they do not adversely affect journalistic quality," the statement said.
The New York Times Co. stable includes The New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, The Boston Globe, 16 other newspapers, eight network-affiliated television stations, two New York City radio stations and more than 40 websites.
