ATHENS - Greece and Bulgaria are reinforcing their cooperation against money counterfeiters and people smugglers, Greek public order minister Georges Voulgarakis said Wednesday after a meeting with his Bulgarian counterpart.
The two countries will improve contacts between officials working on these two areas and follow up with a high-level meeting later this year.
Voulgarakis said Albanian police would also be trained in Greece to combat organised crime and illegal immigration.
False euro notes, manufactured in Bulgaria, are regularly seized in northern Greece, according to Greek authorities.
Non-governmental organisations have estimated there are some 17,000 victims of people smuggling in Greece, mostly women and minors who are forced to work as prostitutes.
