Two explosions injured dozens of people on Sunday in two New Delhi cinemas, which were screening a movie considered offensive to some Sikhs, police said.
Several other cinema halls across the city were evacuated immediately after the explosions, local television stations reported.
At least 40 people were hurt at one of the theatres, where shattered glass and debris littered the ground, police said. Witnesses said there was no major damage to the building.
At least seven were injured at the second cinema, Headlines Today television said.
There were no immediate reports of deaths. Further details were not immediately available and no cause had been determined for the blasts.
The two theatres were showing a film called "Jo Bole So Nihal". Some Sikhs complain the title, in the Punjabi language, offends their religion.
On Sunday, India's coalition government also celebrated the first anniversary of taking power.
