LEFKOSA (AA) - Fifty-three companies from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will participate in ``Cyprus International Fair`` which will take place in southern Cyprus between May 20th-29th.
Turkish firms will display products as outlined in the Green Line Regulations. All agricultural and animal products are exempt from the fair.
Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry Chairman Salih Tunar has indicated today (Wednesday) that, by participating in the fair in southern Cyprus, they plan to introduce TRNC products to potential consumers and the Greek Cypriot community.
Tunar remarked that it is one of their goals to bring the two communities closer by their economic activities.
Tunar stressed that, while all agricultural and animal related products are exempt from the fair, some of the products that the TRNC firms will display include furniture items, construction materials, cleaning liquids, metal products, cosmetic goods, paper related goods, bottled water and fruit juices, coffee and hand made souvenirs.
According to Tunar, Turkish firms in the TRNC are extending a hand to Greek Cypriots, as producers and manufacturers of certain goods, with the ultimate goal of finding a lasting solution in the island.
``If we receive a positive response from the Greek Cypriots, we will wait for the improvement of relations, especially after the Turkish Cypriots voted in favor of the Annan plan last year. This will be a step to end the international isolation of the TRNC. We will not only establish free trade with southern Cyprus but also with the whole world,`` commented Tunar.
