Turkish Cypriot & Greek Cypriot Businessmen Meet In Limasol

LEFKOSA (AA) - Recalling that commercial vehicles can cross the border from the Greek Cypriot administration to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without any restrictions, but they face some restrictions when crossing from the north to the south, Ali Erel, the Chairman of Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce (KTTO), said, ''this situation is particularly against the principles of free movement of people, goods and services.''
     Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot businessmen met today (Wednesday) at the Hawai Hotel in Limasol, thanks to the initiatives of KTTO and Limasol Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and exchanged views to lay the groundwork for possible cooperation and movement of goods and services between the north and south.
     Speaking in this meeting, Tony Antoniou, the Chairman of Limasol Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said that the Green Line Regulation envisaged trade between the south and the north, and expressed expectation that their initiatives would bear fruit.
    
     -MEER: REGULATION CAN BE CHANGED-
    
     Also taking the floor in the meeting, Adriaan Van der Meer, the Head of the Representation of the European Union (EU) in the Greek Cypriot administration, said that the Green Line Regulation had a flexible structure, and they aimed to make this regulation more concrete, changing it till the end of this month.
     Meer stated that they were also working on the animal trade, and said that the EU wanted development of transportation, communication and trade between the two parts of the island.
     The EU also wanted to end the economic imbalance between the two parts, added Meer.
