National Education Minister Celik Leaves For Norway

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkish National Defense Minister Huseyin Celik left for Norway on Wednesday.
     Celik will attend a meeting in Bergen city of Norway on Bologna process.
     He told reporters before his departure the Bologna process aimed to create the European Higher Education Area.
     ''During the meeting, performance of member countries since the latest meeting in German capital Berlin in 2003 will be evaluated,'' he added.
     Ministers responsible for higher education from 40 European countries will meet in Bergen from May 19th to 20th.
     The Bologna process started on June 19th, 1999, when 29 European Ministers responsible for higher education signed the Bologna declaration in which they undertake to create a European Higher Education Area. Under the declaration, the creation of the European Higher Education Area should be completed by 2010.
     The main objectives of the Bologna declaration are to increase the mobility and employability of European higher education graduates thus ensuring competitiveness of European higher education on the world scale.
     The ministers have decided to meet every two years to reconfirm the objectives, analyze the results and set guidelines for the next period.
     The first ministerial meeting after Bologna took place in Prague on May 17, 2001, and the second in Berlin on September 18th, 2003.
