Tan: Greek Cypriots' Property Claims Increase Insecurity

ANKARA (AA) - Foreign Ministry Spokesman Namik Tan said on Wednesday that Greek Cypriots' property claims increased insecurity.
     Speaking in a weekly news conference, Tan said that ''we consider those claims as Greek Cypriots' attempts to impose their jurisdiction over Turkish Cypriots. These attempts contradict with the efforts for a comprehensive settlement on the island.''
     ''The imposition of a blockade on Turkish Cypriots and at the same time resorting to such methods of pressure (by the Greek Cypriot side) on Turkish Cypriots can't be accepted,'' said Tan.
     Tan also referred to the remarks of EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn who described those law suits (of Greek Cypriot side) as meaningless and stressed that nothing could be achieved by such methods.
     Upon a question about the meeting of TRNC Foreign Minister Serdar Denktas with his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul, Tan said that the two foreign ministers discussed the recent developments about Cyprus upon the demand of Denktas.
    
     -VISIT OF AL-JAFARI-
    
     Tan said that Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jafari of Iraq would pay a visit to Turkey between May 20th-21st upon the invitation of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
     When asked if Turkey's expectations about the terrorist organization PKK would be explained to Al-Jafari, Tan said all issues that concerned the two countries, including that of the terrorist organization PKK, would be taken up at the meetings.
