Parliament Accepts Dervis' Resignation From Deputyship

ANKARA (AA) - Turkish parliament accepted on Tuesday the resignation of Kemal Dervis, a lawmaker from Republican People's Party (CHP), from deputyship.
     Dervis presented his resignation to the parliament after being elected as the new administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
     In accordance with the Article 84 of the Constitution arranging loss of membership of a deputy, bureau of the Turkish Parliament attests to the validity of the resignation first. Later, the resignation is put to vote, and requires absolute majority (276) of the total number of members.
     During today's session, the parliament accepted the resignation of Dervis.
     Consequently, number of seats of the CHP at the parliament decreased to 161 while number of vacant seats increased to 3.
     Recent distribution of seats at the parliament is as follows:

     Motherland Party (ANAP) : 10
