ANKARA (AA) - European Investment Bank (EIB) President Phillippe Maystadt indicated that he believed that Turkey which performed a 10 percent economic growth would be ''the motor'' of Europe.
He told the A.A correspondent that Turkey is growing in a stable manner, adding that as long as improvement in macro-economy continued, growth would continue.
-LOAN FROM EIB TO TURKEY-
Recalling that Turkey decreased public expenditures to secure budget discipline and catch primary surplus, Maystadt said they would grant new loans to Turkey, including 2 billion Euros in two or three years. He noted that this amount could be increased.
-DIRECT FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN TURKEY-
Maystadt stressed that there would be an increase in direct foreign investments to Turkey, as long as the country fulfilled conditions required to become a member of the European Union (EU), noting that the deal to be signed with IMF would help to attract new foreign investments to Turkey.
''Appropriate conditions are now in place in Turkey,'' Maystadt added.
-TURKEY'S EU ACCESSION-
Recalling that EU Council's decision on December 17, 2004 was an expression that Turkey would become a full member of the EU, Maystadt said that Turkey should continue to enact reforms by focusing on economic and political criteria.
Maystadt noted that they would support Turkey.
EIB has granted 3.6 billion Euros of loan to Turkey since 1965, including 700 million Euros in 2004.
