KIEV (AA) - Turkish Foreign Minister & Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul who is currently in Ukraine on an official visit, attended opening of Turkish Literature Symposium in Kiev on Thursday.
Speaking at the symposium at the Shevchenko University, Gul said that the symposium was a sign of the importance attributed by Ukraine to Turkish history and culture.
''There have been profound relations between Turkey and Ukraine beyond the good neighborly relations,'' he said.
Later, Gul visited the Monument to Commemorate Famine Victims.
The monument was erected in the memory of those who starved to death between 1932 and 1933.
Later, Gul met Ukrainian Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk. Gul and Tarasyuk will hold a joint news conference following their meeting.
