BERLIN - Ferrari's seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher is "too old", according to Renault managing director Flavio Briatore.
"I admire his successes - I celebrated his first world title with him 11 years ago in Benetton - but he's too old," Briatore said in remarks to German magazine Bunte to appear on Thursday.
"Last season, while Michael was driving from victory to victory, I didn't have the impression that he was enjoying himself much."
The eldest of the Schumacher brothers at 36 years of age, he is the oldest driver in this season's championship, in which he trails Renault's Spanish sensation Fernando Alonso by 34 points.
Schumacher's chances of winning a sixth successive title are fading and the German driver must get back on track in Sunday's Grand Prix in Monaco.
