LISBON - Sporting Lisbon coach Jose Peseiro said he was "extremely confident" of beating CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Cup final here on Wednesday.
"For us the most important thing at the moment, and we are extremely confident, is to win the cup and go down in club history," Peseiro told a press conference.
"It's with tremendous pride and satisfaction that we've arrived at the final. That demanded a lot of work and sacrifice on our part.
"But we are all brimming with desire, confidence and motivation to win this title."
Sporting are seeking their second European title, the first coming in 1964 when they beat MTK Budapest in the European Cup Winner's Cup.
Peseiro hailed Portugal's recent successes in European competition. Apart from Portugal reaching last year's Euro 2004 final, FC Porto won the Champions League last season and the UEFA Cup the year before.
"That proves the quality of our football and that we are strong, or stronger than we imagine," Peseiro said.
