WOLFSBURG, Germany - German side VfL Wolfsburg are ready to part ways with Belgian coach Erik Gerets at the end of the season, according to local reports.
Gerets, 50, is contracted at the Volkswagen Arena until June 30, 2006 but Wolfsburg are unhappy at an awful run of results that has seen the club go from Bundesliga leaders to mid-table obscurity.
"This team has the potential to finish fifth and there are reasons why that has not happened," said general manager Thomas Strunz.
In 2003 Gerets was allowed to splash a club record nine million euros for Argentine international Andres D'Alessandro but the big signings have not worked out.
Wolfsburg lie ninth with their best hope a spot in the much-maligned Intertoto Cup.
