TURKISH JUNIOR FOOTBALL TEAM BECOMES EUROPEAN CHAMPION
Turkish junior football team defeated the Netherlands 2-0 in the European Under 17 Football Championship, and became the European Champion for a second time after the team was formed.

AGAR AGAIN DYP LEADER WITH 1,071 VOTES
Mehmet Agar was re-elected the leader of the True Path Party (DYP), winning 1,071 votes in the DYP convention in which he fainted. Doctors, who were the members of DYP, helped Agar as he fainted due to low blood pressure.

TURKISH GENE SCARCE IN TURKEY
Dr. Spencer Wells, who is drawing the family tree of humanity, told Milliyet daily, ``you may consider yourself Turk, but your roots may be coming from other places.`` Wells, who has been assigned to head the Genography Project launched by the National Geographic Association and IBM, will find out the genetic map of the humanity. ``We know that Turkish language and culture were spread in Anatolia. But findings indicate that Turkish gene coming from the Central Asia to Anatolia with the Seljuks was not spread very much here. Turkey is a very heterogeneous place. We will see if there are people who still preserve the genetic features of the local people who used to live in Anatolia before the Turks.``

OGER: WE WILL BRING 1.4 MILLION TOURISTS``
Nina Oger, the deputy chairperson of the Oger Tour Executive Board, said that Turkey had become the number one touristic destination in Europe, and added, ``we aim to bring 1.4 million tourists to Turkey this year.``

AIRLINES ROW
Four European countries banned Onur Air from landing at their airports. In return, Turkey inspected Dutch charter planes for hours. This row started when the Netherlands showed a technical problem in one of the planes of Onur Air as a reason to ban this airlines from landing at its airports. France, Germany and Switzerland also did the same thing. When Britain, Denmark and Italy did not see any technical problems in planes, Ankara`s hand was strengthened. The Netherlands will have to sit at a negotiation table.

AGAR FAINTED DURING CONVENTION
True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Agar fainted when he was addressing the party members during yesterday`s convention of his party. Agar suffered low blood pressure.

PLANE LANDS IN EVERY THREE MINUTES
The number of tourists visiting southern city of Antalya has boomed. 480 planes are landing at the airport of Antalya a day. Especially between Thursdays and Sundays, one plane is landing in every three minutes. 11,152 planes landed at this airport in five months, although it was low season.

ERDOGAN: OUR TARGET IS TO HOST 20 MILLION TOURISTS
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, ``there is a serious rise in Turkish tourism. 17.5 million tourists visited Turkey last year, and our target is to host 20 million this year.``

``OBSTACLE BEFORE TURKISH TOURISM``
Switzerland and France also banned Onur Air from landing their airports, following Germany and the Netherlands due to ``improper maintenance`` of the planes. This ban caused reactions. Osman Serdar, the director of he Antalya airport, said that this ban stemmed from solely commercial concerns, and added, ``Onur Air is carrying more passengers than the airlines of those countries. So, they are trying to hamper Turkish tourism.``

Many challenging games will be played in the Super League today. Leader Fenerbahce will play an away match with Ankaragucu, while Galatasaray will host Genclerbirligi. Istanbulspor will take on Besiktas.

A group of U.S. senators decided to go to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by a direct flight at the end of this month. U.S. Department of State spokesman Boucher said, ``nobody can prevent the U.S. people from going to TRNC.``

TENNIS SHOW ON BOSPHORUS
World-famous tennis player Venus Williams will perform a five-minute show on the Bogazici (Bosphorus) Bridge to promote Istanbul.

European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Commission Co-Chairman Lagendijk said, ``we respect any decision of Turkey regarding Ocalan.``

TWO MORE BAN TO ONUR AIR
After the Netherlands banned Onur Air from landing at its airports due to technical malfunction of the planes, Germany, France and Switzerland made a similar decision. Thanks to diplomatic initiatives launched by Turkish Foreign and Transportation Ministries, Germany and France announced that they had allowed the Onur Air planes to pass from their air spaces.

CICEK: WHOEVER BACKS TERRORISM WILL BE HIT BY IT
Turkish Justice Minister Cemil Cicek said that the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding head terrorist Abdullah Ocalan had political and legal dimensions, and said, ``whoever backs terrorism will be bitten by this snake sooner or later.``

The headscarf ban will be protested at Ankara`s Sihhiye Square today. Tens of thousands are expected to join the demonstration.

Many European countries which accuse Turkey of ``committing genocide`` are guilty of genocide. The Brits carried out genocide against the Aboriginals, the Germans against Namibians and Jews, the Spanish and the Americans on the Indians.
