HEBRON, West Bank - A 58-year-old Palestinian woman died during an Israeli operation in the southern West Bank city of Hebron Friday with her son blaming Israeli troops for sending the door to their home tumbling down on her.
"The soldiers forced the door, sending the metal jamb crashing down on my mother's head," said Mahmud Abu Zaharan.
But an Israeli army spokesman insisted the death of Widad Mohammed Alkaud was unrelated to the operation and said troops had even given her first aid.
"An Israeli unit was carrying out a routine operation in the neighbourhood when a householder asked the unit's soldiers to come to this woman's aid," the spokesman said.
"They gave her first aid but she died nonetheless, apparently as a result of a heart attack."
