OSLO - Police in Norway said Friday they had launched an investigation into a Norwegian diplomat suspected of having raped a Philippine woman while he was posted in Baghdad in 1990.
After questioning the diplomat, police informed him he was a suspect but have yet to charge him with the crime, Oslo police attorney Svein Holden told AFP.
The diplomat, whose name was not revealed, is suspected of having raped the woman several times in his residence, after she and several other refugees sought refuge during a period of turbulence in Iraq.
The man has insisted on his innocence, Holden said.
