ANKARA (AA) - Halil Mutlu, Nurcan Taylan and Taner Sagir of Turkey who won gold medals at 2004 Olympic Games were admitted as honorary freemen of Athens.
     Greek Ambassador Michael Christides presented the titles to Mutlu, Taylan and Sagir on Wednesday.
     Christides wished Turkish athletes to be more successful in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and win more gold medals.
     Turkish Youth & Sports Director General Mehmet Atalay who also attended the ceremony said that the aim of sports is to contribute to friendship and make countries closer. He added that steps which were taken for this aim continued with matches between Turkey and Greece.
     Sagir won men's weightlifting 77-kg gold medal, Taylan broke two world and three Olympic records in the Olympic weightlifting in the women's 48-kg class, and Mutlu won weightlifting gold medal in the men's 56-kg category during the 28th Summer Olympics in Athens in August.
