BUCHAREST (AA) - Southeastern Europe countries have decided not to make any change in their policy as regards Kosovo and declared that they support the UN Security Council's decision no. 1244 regarding the deployment of international military troops in the region.
In a draft communique issued within the framework of the 8th Summit of Southeast European Countries Cooperation Process, a call is being made for renewed and constructive dialog between Belgrade and Pristina.
In the draft it was urged that meetings to determine Kosovo's status should continue and preservation of Kosovo's democratic, multi-ethnic society is a must for the stability of the region.
The draft statement touched upon the importance of respect towards the freedom of regional countries and their territorial integrity. Participants also called for an international fight against terrorism, organized crime and corruption.
The draft document talks about the modernization of border controls, improvement and harmonization of visa regulations.
Regional countries insisted on joint projects to increase mutual trade and creation of opportunities in areas such as environment, social security, health, education and tourism.
The next meeting of the Southeastern Europe Countries Cooperation Process will take place in Greece in 2006.
