ANKARA (AA) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan received United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Administrator Kemal Dervis of Turkey in Ankara on Monday.
Following the meeting, Dervis told reporters, ''I expressed my gratitude to Erdogan. Turkey won the race for the post of administrator of UNDP. Foreign Ministry, Premier Erdogan and Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal supported me very much.''
''This mission is a public service in international level. I will successfully represent Turkey in my mission,'' noted Dervis.
Dervis said, ''it is necessary to help UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and work for success of UN. However, it is also necessary to represent Turkey successfully.''
Dervis said, ''UN Secretary General Annan requested my help in fight against poverty in developing countries. As I respect Annan and believe in UN as well as international legitimacy, solidarity and peace, I will contribute to UN mission. I will dedicate myself to this four-year mission.''
