ANKARA (AA) - Kemal Dervis, who was recently elected to the post of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Administrator, has resigned from his position as the Republican People's Party (CHP) MP from Istanbul.
Dervis's new duty as the UNDP Administrator will start in August, 2005.
Dervis indicated that Turkey won the race for the UNDP top post. ''I felt as if I was racing for Turkey. There were very respectable and experienced candidates from other countries. The transparent election process is one that desires recognition and appreciation. It is a process in which you are tested. The result is a positive one for Turkey. Our MFA did a great job,'' told Dervis.
Dervis added that his resignation as a MP was necessary. ''An active political identity cannot be kept,'' commented Dervis.
