ANKARA - Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said on Saturday that Turkey which surprised the European Union (EU) with its democratic reforms till December 17, would keep surprising European countries with its great performance in economy.
Delivering a speech within the scope of the conference entitled, ''Macroeconomic Policies in EU Accession Process'' in Ankara, Gul indicated that reforms that Turkey enacted should not be perceived as doing what EU, IMF and World Bank required, but the government enacted these reforms due to its responsibility to Turkish people.
Gul noted that growth rate reached 24 percent in the last three years.
Noting that direct foreign investments in Turkey would increase with opening of accession talks with EU, he said that economic programs that Turkey put into action and works done during the negotiation process completed each other.
-''WE TAKE SERIOUSLY OUR RELATIONS WITH EU''-
Gul noted that Turkey's EU process strengthened the government's will on its path to the EU, stressing that Turkish government took seriously its relations with EU.
Recalling that EU was the biggest economic trade partner of Turkey, he said that they aimed to inform the EU public about contributions of Turkey to the EU.
