AKP DEPUTIES CONTACTS IN DUMA
Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputies Ramazan Toprak and Mehmet Emin Bilgic went to Russia last week as members of NATO Parliamentary Assembly and had contacts at Duma. AKP deputies learnt about the adoption of the bill supporting Armenian genocide claims by Duma, after they had their meetings.

PERINCEK SAYS 'ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IS A LIE' IN SWITZERLAND
Dogu Perincek, the leader of the Worker's Party (IP) said in Switzerland that ''Armenian genocide is an international lie.'' By his speech, Perincek extended support to Prof. Dr. Halacoglu who was investigated by Swiss authorities as he told the same thing in Switzerland.

SEPTUPLETS DIE, HE IS AFTER A SHOW
Turkish woman named ''Sibel Deniz'' lost her septuplets on the eve of the Mother's Day. Ozer Gurbuz, the head doctor of the hospital who displayed the offsprings, caused a scandal. Zeki Gul, the Chairman of the Izmir Physicians' Chamber, said that displaying the offsprings was unacceptable, and noted, ''I will demand an investigation against Gurbuz.'' On the other hand, Gurbuz defended himself as, ''I did this because I want to prove that they were septuplets.''

GREEK CYPRIOTS SHOCKED: ''WE ARE SLAPPED BY ATHENS''
The Greek-flagged ship named ''Aegean Sun'' was hoisted by TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) flag and emptied its load in Gazimagusa city of TRNC. This development caused indignation in Greece and Greek Cypriot side. The Greek Cypriot press said, ''the government is shocked. This has been a slap from Greece.''

''MIRACLE MAN'' FAME WAS EFFECTIVE
Hilda Johnson, the strongest rival of Kemal Dervis, who has been elected as the new Administrator of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), commented on Dervis' success. She said, ''Kemal's fame as being the 'miracle man' due to his contributions to Turkish economy played an important role in this election.''

NOW, IT'S GOLD MARKET'S TURN
After the radical changes in the senior officials of Capital Market Board, Vahit Ertas is being appointed as the Chairman of the Gold Market.

DOUBLE SCANDAL
Ozer Gurbuz, the doctor of the septuplets, displayed the dead offsprings when he was announcing the death of the babies, and promoted his hospital. Sibel Deniz, the mother of the septuplets, experienced the biggest shock of her life on the eve of the Mother's Day. When one of the babies died, the others were removed by cesarean surgery, but they did not survive. This move of Gurbuz, the doctor of the babies, caused reactions throughout Turkey.

IT WOULD BE HER FIRST MOTHER'S DAY
A woman who gave birth to her son three months ago, was killed by a theft who entered her apartment from an open window. Today would be her first Mother's Day. The father found her wife killed in the bed and the baby still sleeping in her chest when he came from work in the evening.

TEL AVIV-TRABZON FLIGHT STARTS
The increasing demand of Israelis to Black Sea coasts of Turkey motivated Turkish Airlines (THY). THY which noticed that Israeli tourists were very interested in northern coasts of Turkey, started Trabzon-Tel Aviv flight which will take place once in a week.

PROTEST FROM CHP: CUSTOMS, LET YOU FREE US
Members of the Women's Branch of Republican People's Party (CHP) wanted to protest the ''increasing honor killings and violence against women'' in Istanbul. So, they walked to the Republican Monument in Taksim. They wore black bands on their mouth, and freed black balloons in the air. They carried a banner writing, ''Customs, let you free us''.

ISRAELI AMBASSADOR: OUR RELATIONS WERE ABOUT TO BE DETERIORATED
Israeli Ambassador to Turkey Avivi said that Israeli-Turkish relations had overcome a ''threat'', and noted, ''we have exerted great efforts not to deteriorate relations during these difficult days.''

THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN FREE PRESS TO GO TO JAIL AFTER JUNE 1ST
If the new penal code is not amended, those journalists who decode/cover one gang's telephone calls can be sentenced to three years, those who write about corruption claims can be sentenced to four years and those who broadcast against the official policies can be sentenced up to ten years.

CONGRESSES PLEASE TURKEY
The Congress tourism pleased Istanbul this year. All the five star holidays were full in Istanbul this week and the money those tourists spent reached nearly 36 million New Turkish Liras (YTL).

TREASURY ASSISTANCE TO ANAP-SHP CUT
The law which envisages that Treasury should not extend assistance to political parties, the votes of which are below 7 percent in the general elections, was put into force yesterday. Therefore, Treasury assistance to Motherland Party (ANAP) and the Social Democrat People's Party (CHP) was cut. Under this new law, (ruling) Justice & Development Party (AKP), (main opposition) Republican People's Party (CHP), True Path Party (DYP), Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), and Young Party (GP) will take Treasury assistance next year since their votes were above 7 percent in the previous general elections.

SILK ROAD TRAIN IN TURKMENISTAN
The Silk Road Train, launched to promote the historical Silk Road trade route, is travelling to Turkmen capital of Ashkabat. The train hosted three fairs in its first stop Iran. A fair will be opened in Ashkabat on May 11th. 30 Turkish businessmen are expected to attend the fair which will be inaugurated by Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim.

ANKARA TO TREAT INJURED IRAQIS
Turkey gave its friendly hand to Iraqi Kurds once again. The 21 Iraqis who were injured in the attack that took place on Iraqi Kurdistan Democrat Party (IKDP) office in Irbil in north of Iraq will get medical treatment in Ankara. Turkey sent a plane to Irbil and brought the patients to Ankara.

50 BILLION DOLLARS OF COMPETITION
The retail sector after banking sector has caused the most appeal among foreign investors who want to undertake investment in Turkey. World giants like Wal Mart, Carrefour and Tesco compete now to be dominant in the Turkish market.

COMMERCIAL COOPERATION WITH ISLAM COUNTRIES DOUBLED
Trade and investments among 57 Islam countries has increased in recent years. Turkey increased its exports to Muslim countries, particularly Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, by 102 percent between 2000 and 2003.

NEW TCK STILL TRICKY
No changes have been made to the tricky articles of the new Turkish Penal Code (TCK). The article 216, which is an equivalent of the article 312 of the former TCK, was not amended. This article 216 envisages that punishment will be increased by half if a crime is committed through the press.'' Some articles which are criticized for they restrict freedom were not changed.
